I started this with my last $2,000 and a contract for outdoor space I had already paid for before anyone signed up.
The first session sold out in 24 hours.
What followed was four years of building. Not planning. Building. I moved 3.5 tons of flooring by hand. I drew the layout of the first space in my daughter’s sidewalk chalk, on skates, alone in a cold machine shop, before a single board was down. The vision was already complete. The building just hadn’t caught up.
Nearly 800 adults came through that room. They came back week after week. Not because it was perfect. Because it was real. I would sit there some nights, quietly, watching people skate in the space I had seen in chalk before it existed in wood. Watching them become something the rest of their week didn’t allow.
That is what Sarovyn is. Not a skating program. A place where people return to themselves.
Less than one percent of the skating community I spent forty years inside came to support what I built. The room filled anyway. With people who had never been centered by an industry built on their culture, their time, their energy. They showed up. They stayed. They came back.
The Sarovyn Cultural Founders Circle is how we build the infrastructure that matches what this community has already proven it deserves.
